Order to change the Superintendent of AIIMS in case of Journalist Suicide

The committee in its report has not considered any administrative disturbances in the suicide of the journalist. The committee also found that there was no laxity in the protocol to be followed during the treatment of COVID-19.

Last week, Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan has taken a big action on the suicide of a journalist in Delhi AIIMS. The Health Minister has instructed the Medical Superintendent of AIIMS Trauma Center (JPNATC) to be replaced immediately.

On July 6, a journalist named Tarun Sisodia gave his life by jumping from the fourth floor of AIIMS. Sisodia was corona positive and admitted to AIIMS for treatment. With the change of medical superintendent, the Health Minister directed to form an expert committee that will give suggestions on the necessary changes in AIIMS and JPNATC administration.

The Health Minister has also sought a report about the changes. The committee’s report with recommendations is to be submitted to the Health Minister before 27 July. Earlier, a committee of 4 members was formed to investigate the suicide of journalist Tarun Sisodia, who submitted his report on Friday.

Last week, Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan had said on the death of journalist Tarun Sisodia that I have no words to express my grief. This was an unfortunate incident. My condolences to his entire family. In this case, the Union Health Minister ordered the AIIMS Director to conduct an official inquiry immediately. 

Along with this, a high-level committee was formed and a report was sought in 48 hours. The inquiry committee consisted of Professor Padma from the Chief of Neuroscience Center, RK Chadha, Head of the Department of Psychiatry, Dr. Panda, Deputy Director (Admin), and Dr. U. Singh.
