Home Minister Amit Shah has entrusted the operation of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police’s medical personnel at the Radha Swami Satsang Beas Center in Chhatarpur, South Delhi to operate India’s largest quarantine center for corona patients.
This quarantine center can accommodate more than 10,200 patients. This center of Chhatarpur, as big as 15 football fields, has been named Sardar Patel COVID Care Center and Hospital.
A senior home ministry official said that the center, built temporarily for Corona patients, would be 10 times larger than the one set up in Leicheson, China. The center in China had facilities to house 1,000 patients. In February, Chinese diplomats released a video of the construction of that hospital.
Home Minister Amit Shah earlier this month asked Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal to find places where the Delhi government could rapidly expand its capacity to keep and treat Corona patients when needed.
After the appeal of the Lieutenant Governor, the spiritual organization Radha Swami Satsang Beas Center first helped. Earlier during the lockdown, the center also opened up some of its ashrams to migrants in other parts of the country. Not only this, the organization has told the government that it can also provide food for the patients.
Amit Shah is expected to visit the center this weekend. Authorities have been asked to begin operations of 2,000 beds, possibly by Thursday. The remaining beds are targeted to be installed by 3 July.
The Delhi government had earlier estimated that by the end of this month the number of corona patients in Delhi would reach 1 lakh, which would require around 15,000 beds.
Officials said Amit Shah has asked the ITBP medical personnel to help the staff of the Corona Care Center. After the commissioning of this center of 10,200 beds, 800 general doctors and 70 specialist doctors will be required in addition to about 1,400 nurses.
Kejriwal wrote a letter to Amit Shah
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah to invite him to visit the 10,000-bed COVID Care Center set up in Radha Swami Satsang Complex in South Delhi. Along with this, Kejriwal has also demanded to provide doctors and nurses from ITBP for running this COVID center.
